Work for SPI! On-Site Director Positions On-Site Director Position Overview
Leading a study abroad program is one of the most rewarding summer jobs you can have as a language educator. SPI is looking for highly qualified, dynamic educators to serve as on-site directors for our summer immersion programs. Directors serve as mentors, caregivers, motivators, and model immersion students and work as a team with the foreign school to carry out the entire program itinerary. On-site directors conduct the program in the language of study and provide 24-hour support to students as well as fellow directors. Teachers interested in serving as a director should be fluent in the language and the ability to work with teenagers and other adults outside of a classroom environment is fundamental. Directors are highly involved on a daily basis with students, although a core SPI program goal is to promote independence, giving directors ample time to enjoy the homestay city in the afternoons and while students are in class. And although SPI programs will take you to some of the most amazing places on earth, our directors enjoy their summer jobs, not paid vacations. Program Composition & Student Recruitment
SPI programs are comprised of 1 Program Director, 1-2 Assistant Directors, and 16-28 Students. The foundation of each program is formed by students recruited by traveling Directors from their own classes or school. Since programs are open enrollment, they fill with a combination of director-recruited participants along with referrals from other teachers, alumni, parents, and our website. This enables SPI to hire the most qualified teachers to serve as directors regardless of their ability to recruit students. We ask that directors strive to recruit 8 students to form the base of each group. By mid March the enrollment process is closed and group size along with the number of directors needed is finalized. If a director falls short of the 8 students to guarantee their participation, we will extend the following options: travel for free as a director if there are enough students enrolled from other sources, travel as a director at a discounted rate based on the number of students you recruited, or not travel but receive a cash stipend of $100 per student directly recruited. We also offer custom programs for teachers and closed school groups. To learn more please visit our Custom Programs page. Steps to Becoming an SPI Director:
1. Review our website to gain a thorough understanding of SPI programs and our mission. 2. Read about our on-site director positions and qualifications. 3. Contact SPI and let us know you are interested! Complete the Director Profile Form. 4. SPI will contact you personally to determine which program and session will work best for you and send all the supplies you need to get started! We look forward to having your join our team! Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions you may have info@spiabroad.com or 866-502-7505 x1.
