Travel Questions

Flight Information

You are responsible for booking your own flight on our designated group flights.  Click Here to View Flight Information.  You may book using miles/points, directly through the airline, or through STA Travel.  Please read the flight information page for complete details.

Can I travel on a Different Flight?  Stay Longer?

Yes. SPI charges a convenience fee if you book your ticket outside of the designated flight guidelines.  You are allowed to travel before or after a program with your family, you will just be required to complete a program release form.  Please view the flight information page for specific guidelines.

Need a Passport?

Please visit U.S State Dept. Website for current information on applying for your passport. It normally takes 2-6 weeks to process regular passport applications, but you can get rush service. Your passport should have an expiration date no earlier than six months from the end date of the program. EXAMPLE: If the program ends on June 30, your passport should not expire before December 30. Parents: it is also a good idea to get a passport for yourself!  Also, please make copies to leave at home and to bring abroad.

Basic Insurance – ISIC Coverage

Your program cost includes basic medical & travel coverage with your ISIC card for the length of your stay abroad. Click here for Complete Policy Information  SPI is not responsible for coverage, disbursement, or policies regarding this coverage.

Additional Insurance – Not Included

We encourage purchasing additional travel insurance in case you must cancel your trip for medical or family reasons. We recommend using Travel Guard. They are the industry leader and standard in travel insurance and offer great rates for students studying abroad. Please note that nearly all travel insurance policies work on a reimbursement system.  We are not responsible for coverage.

Visas & Special Immunizations

A visa is not required for U.S. and Canadian citizens for stays shorter than 90 days in all countries where SPI has programs (except China, where a VISA is required.)  If you are not a U.S. citizen, please contact your airline for visa and immunization requirements. Unfortunately, SPI cannot be a liason for non-US citizens requiring visas or special documentation; you must contact the embassy/consulate and apply directly.
