Overnight & Day Excursions
SPI study abroad programs incorporate both classroom academics and travel exploration. Weekend and cultural day excursions help students use the language of study and interact directly with locals. From visits to world class museums and exchanges with local students, to magnificent hikes through the Pyrenees Mountains or Costa Rican rain forest; students explore the most important monuments, cities, and natural wonders each country has to offer.
Afternoon Elective Activities
Our meaningful afternoon elective activities let local culture, sports, and attractions come to life! Each program has a set of afternoon activities for students to partake in. Our activities are designed to combine serious fun (it is summer break after all!) with truly inspiring experiences. Participation in all activities is not required, although we do recommend participating in at least three activities per week.
Common Afternoon Activities:
- Cooking Classes
- Dance Classes
- Sports: Surfing, Volleyball, Soccer, Kayaking, Snorkeling
- Hikes & Walks
- Museum & Theater Visits
- Local Sporting Events
- Local Cultural Events
Accommodations on Overnight Excursions
SPI programs use a variety of accommodation types depending on the program. Our regular programs use high end 3-4 star hotel properties centrally located in safe and walk friendly areas. For customized programs, many schools elect to use student hotels or dormitories that offer a more university type accommodation. Normally, breakfast is included and often times one additional meal (lunch or dinner) is provided depending on the program. Any special meal requests for custom program tour programs should be listed on your application. Meals included at hotels are often simple, healthy, and give a nice taste for the country’s culinary specialties.
