Saludos Parents!
Back at you from Spain this morning. I wanted to let everyone know that we had a fantastic time in Barcelona this weekend – lots of sight seeing, shopping, and good eats were had by all!
Last week we were invited as special guests by one of the homestay families (Biagio Camarrano’s family) to be apart of the San Juan festival. Tarragona is a famous city in this province and all over Spain for the human castles that they build during the two day festival. We were invited to see both the practices and the ‘real thing’ with front row seats….some of the students were even invited to participate in this special event! It was truly a “once in a lifetime” experience. (See the pictures below to see the human castles and festivals in Tarragona from last week.)
The first week is always the hardest, but I have been continuously impressed by the positive attitudes from everyone. Lots of Spanish spoken by all. This week I have encouraged the students to really try to focus on their Spanish and make the most out of the last week here in Tarragona.
On Wednesday students will be having an “intercambio” or exchange meeting with local Spanish students that are their age. (We couldn’t do this last week because Spanish kids in Tarragona were still finishing their exams.)
Encouragement from the states is always helpful!!! Glad to keep everyone updated and enjoy the new pictures!

Hola Parents!
Saludos de Espana, I wanted to send everyone a personal update from Tarragona.
We have finally settled into our homestay families after a long weekend traveling through northern Cataluña, Spain (north of Barcelona.) Luckily we had no delays or problems with the flight and everyone seemed to arrive more or less in ‘working condition’ to start our adventure.
We visited on Saturday the famous Spanish artist’s Salvador Dalí museum and his house. On Sunday we spent the afternoon enjoying the beach in a beautiful town called Tossa de Mar. We hiked up the old roman walls of the city and hung out at the beach after a relaxing lunch facing the water.
We have also been busy since we arrived in Tarragona as this week is a festival week here. We have had ONLY positive attitudes and smiles by everyone (the best group Betsy Arnold has ever taken in her 10 years leading trips to Spain!) Everyone has been helping each other out and the unity of the small group has already been molded.
I only have great things to say about each individual student as they have all been actively participating in afternoon activities and excursions. Thursday we will be participating in the festivals with the homestay families and on Saturday morning we travel to Barcelona for the weekend. We have done lots already and still have lots more to do!
