"The person who made the biggest difference in my life was my Westwood High School Spanish teacher, Gloria Munguia. She made that difference by giving me some simple but important advice: Think of your high school travel as an investment in your future - forget the tours - study abroad."

“That advice completely changed my life. While I was in high school I was fortunate enough to study Spanish abroad in Spain over the course of two summers. Not only did I excel in my AP Spanish classes but I also was able to enter college with 25 hours of credit with a 4.0 GPA. I gained such an appreciation for Spanish culture and language during high school that I continued to study in college. Last year I studied language and business in Mexico, Spain and Argentina. Now with a network of friends, teachers and near family across the world I am an advocate for studying abroad... especially during high school because I saved money and was able to graduate early.”

“I believe in study abroad and SPI programs. SPI’s attention to detail and fantastic organization makes traveling with your students easy. With such good organization you get to spend more time enjoying the places you visit while teaching your students and less time worrying about travel logistics.”

Rose Potter
World Language Consultant & Master AP Teacher, Austin, TX

“Study abroad truly changes lives.  In my 30+ years as an educator, I have seen my students and my colleagues grow from immersion programs in inmeasureable ways.  Encouraging studying abroad, and not the tours, is the best advice you can give your students as an educator.”

MilyBett Llanos-Gremillion
2006 Spain Director, Westwood HS, Austin, TX

“You as a teacher will grow so much from this experience. SPI created a well-organized and thought out itinerary that just made sense to what the students needed. We actually had enough time to appreciate the culture and really immerse, rather than running from city to city.

Becca Smith
Program Director & 2005 Spain Director, Austin, TX

“It’s an amazing experience to watch your students mature in both confidence and language ability from foreign travel. I learn and grow as much, if not more, than my students do each summer. Eliminating the formalities of a traditional classroom setting really allows you to connect with the students on a totally different and more personal level.”
