This week, students took a trapiche tour where they learned about the agricultural history of Monteverde. We then walked through the process of turning sugar cane into sugar, cacao into chocolate, and the coffee harvest into the finished product we know so well – complete with tastings of all three products, grown right here in Monteverde! The tour finished with a delicious lunch of typical Costa Rican casado.
We also made a strong showing at karaoke night, part of CPI’S ongoing 25th anniversary celebration.
Thursday’s planned volunteer work was unfortunately cancelled due to rain and most of our students being sick. Those who kept healthy participated in a cooking class at CPI, making tortillas, picadillo de platano, rice, and a special vegetable salad.
Friday morning, students went on an excursion in the mountains to los puentes colgantes and thoroughly enjoyed the hike as well as the scenery and wildlife.
