Saturday (7/9): We’re on our way back from Islas Tortugas! The day started bright and early this morning at 5:30 am. A long bus ride followed by a 2 hour boat ride had us arriving to the island just before 11 am. It was certainly worth it for the calm, clear, beautiful water. Students paddleboarded, kayaked, played beach volleyball, went banana boating, swam, and sun-tanned. We were treated to live music, a delicious lunch, and colorful parrots among coconut and almond trees. Lots of fun was had by all!
Sunday (7/10): This morning, we took a walk through the Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve. We were indeed in the clouds! The walk straddled the continental divide, and took us to the high point of the reserve. We saw birds, butterflies, bugs, incredible plants…and a few folks even caught sight of a monkey. Extraordinary. Afterwards, we enjoyed typical tica food at Restaurante Sabor Tico. We followed that up by treating everyone to ice cream once we were back to the lower altitudes and plenty of sunshine.
Monday (7/11): Students enjoyed a free morning today to rest up and relax after a couple early mornings this weekend. We then headed to CPI for our second cooking class. This time the group made caite, which consists of a fried corn flour tortilla topped with beans, optional meat, cheese, and salad on top. Students are now in class, and looking forward to a pizza night in town!
