What an incredible, busy first few days we’ve had here in beautiful Flamingo Beach, Costa Rica! Upon landing in Liberia, we indulged in a delicious, authentic Costa Rican meal at our hotel (along with some obligatory post-flight swimming time at the pool, of course) and enjoyed a good night’s sleep.
Early Monday morning, we departed for our new home: Flamingo Beach! It was a whirlwind day, complete with language placement testing in the morning, followed by our Latin American cooking class and our first official afternoon of classes. We then met our familias ticas for the first time, and enjoyed our first evening at home with them.
Tuesday was our first volunteer day, at the home of Doña Martha, a local community member. We scraped and brushed the old paint from the house, and began painting it bright blue. The Doña’s adorable granddaughter even joined in the fun and swiftly became Emily’s sidekick 🙂 It was also Max’s sweet 16 birthday, which we celebrated with multiple renditions of “Feliz Cumpleaños” and lots of ice cream, of course. We’ve had such a great start to the program!
