Roma, Saturday – Sunday
Summer 2 students arrived and made fast friends with the Rome Experience students! Once settled into the hotel, everyone went on a walking tour to La Piazza di Spagna, La Fontana di Trevi and il Panteon. Enzo, our Program Coordinator, provided many historical facts of the sites visited. Everyone enjoyed taking photos, exploring the streets of Rome and of course, eating gelato. Students spent the evening eating at Ristorante Strega and watching the quarterfinal soccer championship match of Italy vs. Germany. We were all sad when Italy lost, but felt grateful to have shared the experience together!
The group spent the early afternoon traveling to Siena to finally meet their homestays! There was a quick stop in Orvieto, a small town in Umbria in which everyone indulged in their favorite dish: pizza. Afterwards, it was time to get back on the bus and head to Siena. Once we arrived, everyone met their homestays and settled into their new homes for the evening. Tomorrow will bring a walking tour orientation of Siena and our first day of Italian classes!
Primo giorno di lezioni! First day of Italian lessons. The whole group attended their classes and quickly learned basic phrases and how to hold a simple conversation. By the afternoon, they were quizzing each other and encouraging one another to parlare in italiano! After lunch, Enzo took the students on a walking tour of the historical center of Siena and then to his favorite gelateria.
